Metal Clay Classes, Kits, Tools, Clay and Supplies

_ Join a small group in my West MI studio to learn successful, fundamental techniques for working metal clay. I’m certified in both PMC® and Art Clay™ and have eight+ years of experience teaching students at all levels. I LOVE to teach beginners, and I provide all the tools for class! Basic classes are always on the schedule, with intermediate to advanced also offered. Kits, tools, components, designer dichroic cabs, and silver/bronze/copper clay are available for purchase.

SilverFire Studios is an authorized distributor of  BRONZclay™, COPPRclay™, and FastFire BronzClay™. As a certified instructor, I also have Art Clay™ products available. Although I haven't managed to get any of it on the site yet- there's never enough time!-, but it's always available for purchase in my studio.   Many kits, tools, components, and designer dichroic cabs are also available for use as appropriate with all of the metal clay brands.

As an instructor certified in both PMC® and Art Clay™ Silver, I can tell you that each brand has its pros and cons. The majority of my teaching uses Art Clay 650 Low Fire / Slow Dry. I love the extended drying time of this clay, along with the ease of use for those new to the medium. Art Clay 650 Low Fire / Slow Dry isn't picky. It's a great clay for beginners, allowing for inclusion of CZs, glass, and some gemstones. Additionally, it can be torch fired, a great advantage to those who want to experiment with metal clay but don't have access to a kiln.

Both PMC® and Art Clay™ Silver are non-toxic and result in a piece that's 99.9% pure silver when fired.

This piece, entitled "Coiled and Bound" was created using BRONZclay™, hammered sterling silver, and copper. BRONZclay™ must be fired in a kiln.

I've worked with BRONZclay™ since it was first introduced to the marketplace. It's a very workable, forgiving clay and allows freedom to the artist due to it's relative low cost. It does require kiln firing. Check the class schedule for introductory courses.

                    Copper

These earrings feature sterling silver accents and were made using COPPRclay™. Again, I've worked with COPPRclay™ and ArtClay™ Copper since they first came on the market. I find them an enjoyable and less expensive alternative to silver clay.  COPPRclay™ must be kiln fired. ArtClay™ Coppercan be kiln or torch-fired.

I teach classes in both brands. If you don't see either on the schedule, please drop me an e-mail request.
