Dichroic Glass is glass which has been coated with a layer of metal oxides while in a vacuum chamber.  Dichroic simply means that the glass transmits one color of light while reflecting a second color.  Dichroic glass was originally developed for scientific purposes, however its use as an artistic medium became popular in the 1980's.
